Civic Engagement 4.0 convenor co-designs APRU SDG Education for Global Citizenship (APRU SDG4GC) to foster global citizenship among students
Increases in conflicts, violence and injustice at global level have been threatening peace, prosperity and sustainability worldwide. Initiated by the United Nations, Global Citizenship Education (GCED) is one of the effective responses to address these challenges, in this context, aiming to encourage and empower the youth to act as enablers of more peaceful and sustainable societies.
The APRU SDG4GC is an intercultural, transdisciplinary and interactive program that fosters global citizenship among students from 61 universities in 19 economies across Asia and the Pacific. Supported by the United Nations, Chulalongkorn University initiated the program, which has been co-designed by experts and practitioners from member universities and partner organizations globally. Ms. Elodie Jacquet, a Civic Engagement 4.0 convenor from Simon Fraser University, has contributed to the core of this program by co-designing the global citizenship workshops in collaboration with Prof. Natalie Konomi, Vice President for International Affairs, Kyushu University.
For almost two decades, Elodie has developed and refined her convening and facilitation skills during a wide variety of dialogues. Some of her highlighted experiences include Canada’s World, Citizens’ Dialogue on Canada’s Energy Future and community-guided dialogues for a national inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls. Under APRU SDG4GC, Elodie and Natalie developed four interactive sessions for the students, namely, 1) Introduction to Global Citizenship, 2) Facilitating Dialogue across Diverse Groups, 3) Intercultural Communication, Intercultural Confusion and Intercultural Conflict, and 4) Peace and Justice: Dialogues for Thriving Communities.
